Biography

Nina Gamsachurdia was born in 1965 in Georgia. Since 1992, she has lived and worked in Switzerland. In Georgia, she studied Art History and Theory at Tbilisi State University and after the graduation she works the Institute of Georgian Art History. Nina Gamsakhurdia works in painting medium, she is actively involved in restoration works too. The experience in icon restoration connected the religion thematic and sharp individual vision in Nina’s art. From one side, she makes abstract-imaginative contemporary paintings and from the other side, she reveals the oldest artistic forms, mostly, the makes experiments on revival of the oldest technologies of Byzantium painting. Her art consists of pictures, stelas, small scale sculptures, amulets, medallions made with marble on primed wood and canvas. It is significant that the artist uses the handmade painting material, which she makes herself. The colors she makes of precious and half-precious natural stone pigments, such as: lapis lazuli, opal, turquoise, malachite, nephrite, diamond, coral, amber, jasper, etc. She also uses a big quantity of gold-foil, copper and silver. Nina Gmsachurdia’s works are kept in galleries and private collections in many countries of the world.
