Biography

Ana Gzirishvili (*1992 in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a mixed-media artist. After finishing her bachelor’s degree at Tbilisi Art Academy in 2014, Ana became a DAAD scholar at Universität der Künste Berlin and currently studies in a new media and film class of professor Hito Steyerl. Coming from a background of book and print-making, (collaborating with Tbilisi Book Art Centre and international publishing house Motto) already in Berlin she started creating videos, CGI images, and experimenting with writing.

Through her experimental practice, she has worked in mediums ranging from videos to music clips, printed matter, from drawing to designing clothes and reading performances. Her projects often examine visual and socio-cultural narratives of a space, object, memory, or event based on sensuality and certain emotional experiences mainly addressing a feeling of displacement in and in-between material/immaterial realms.

In her artistic practice, Ana has also been working on creating platforms for different forms of social activism. In collaboration with a collective Utopian Union she has developed projects in Denmark, Iceland, Georgia.
One of Gzirishvili’s recent ongoing projects is called ‘’IMMATERIALS’’,(http://immaterialsss.com/) which is a platform and a brand for virtual fashion designed.

Ana’s recent work is her graduation film ‘’Jacuzzi Tales’’ which has been shot in Georgia and will be screened in summer 2019.
